Looking to make the most of the available savings? Here’s how you can do it:
Your Red Squirrel energy advisor will collect and submit all the necessary paperwork to Enbridge. You will receive your rebate cheque within 90 business days of submission. The rebate includes $550 towards energy assessment costs. You pay the HST on the cost of the assessments.
*We recommend that you solicit quotes from at least three reputable contractors.
Looking to make the most of the available savings? Here’s how you can do it:
- Call Red Squirrel at 613-547-8122 BEFORE starting your renovations. If you begin your renovations and call us afterwards, you won't be able to participate in the program.
- Get a pre-renovation energy assessment done by a Red Squirrel registered energy advisor.
- Review your assessment and renovation options with the energy advisor.
- Complete at least two of the eligible renovations with a reputable contractor*. (If you wish, you can also do the work yourself.)
- Call Red Squirrel to arrange a post-renovation assessment.

How do I qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate?
To qualify for rebates, you must:

To qualify for rebates, you must:
- Be a Union Gas customer and heat your home with a natural gas furnace or boiler.
- Own a detached, semi-detached, row townhouse, or mobile home.
- Do an energy assessment both before and after your renovation.
- Complete at least two eligible renovations.

What can I get a rebate for?
Furnace/Boiler
$750 – for replacing
$750 – for replacing
- a natural gas furnace that is less than 95% efficiency with a 95% AFUE or higher natural gas furnace OR
- a natural gas boiler that is less than 90% efficiency with a 90% or higher AFUE ENERGYSTAR® condensing natural gas boiler
Basement Insulation
$1,000 – Add at least R23 to 100% of basement
$500 – Add at least R12 to 100% of basement
$800 – Add at least R23 to 100% of crawl space wall
$400 – Add at least R10 to 100% of crawl space wall
$450 – Add at least R24 to 100% of floor above crawl space
Must upgrade a minimum of 20% of total wall area. The rebate is pro-rated, based on the percentage of wall area insulated and does not include walls between individual units. For a semi-detached home, the rebates are 75% of the amounts shown above.
When both a basement and crawl space are present, all applicable rebates are pro-rated to a maximum of $1,000 based on the total combined wall area of the basement and crawl space. For example, if your total foundation area is 40% crawl space and 60% basement, and you add at least R23 to 100% of the crawl space area, but 0% of the basement area, then you would qualify for a $320 rebate (40% x $800 = $320).
Exterior wall Insulation
$1,000 – Add at least R3.8 to 100% of building to achieve a minimum of R12
$1,500 – Add at least R9 to 100% of building to achieve a minimum of R12
$2,000 – Add at least R20 to 100% of building
Rebates are pro-rated based on the percentage of the total wall area that is upgraded. A minimum of 20% of the total wall area must be upgraded. Homes built with studs smaller than 2"x 4" are exempt from the R12 minimum, if photo documentation of the wall structure is provided.
Attic Insulation
$500 – For increasing attic insulation to at least R60 from R35 or less OR for increasing cathedral/flat roof insulation by at least R14.
You must upgrade a minimum of 20% of the total ceiling area. When the roof consists of more than one type and/or sections (i.e., any combination of attic, cathedral ceiling and flat roof), the rebates are pro-rated based on the total ceiling area percentages upgraded. The rebate for any combination of attic, cathedral ceiling and flat roof cannot exceed $500.

Water Heater
$200
The combo system qualifies as a water heater and is eligible for the rebate. Domestic water heater (usually with air handler - fan) that generates hot water and space heating (includes EF rating).
NOTES:

- For replacing existing natural gas water heater with 0.80 EF or higher tank type ENERGY STAR® qualified natural gas water heater.
- For replacing existing natural gas water heater with 0.90 EF or higher tankless ENERGY STAR® qualified natural gas water heater.
The combo system qualifies as a water heater and is eligible for the rebate. Domestic water heater (usually with air handler - fan) that generates hot water and space heating (includes EF rating).
NOTES:
- Maximum one water heater rebate per home. Switching to/from an electric water heater does not qualify for a rebate.
- Replacing a heating system and water heater with a combo system counts as one measure and qualifies for water heater rebate only.
- Replacing an existing combo system with a furnace/boiler and water heater counts as one measure and qualifies for the water heater rebate only.
- Replacing the air handler with a furnace without replacing the water heater does not qualify for a rebate.

Home Efficiency Rebate Terms and Conditions:
*You cannot receive multiple rebates for the same heating system or cooling system, water heating system, insulation upgrades, the same windows. Where air sealing is completed to meet or exceed the base target identified in the pre-assessment you will be eligible to receive a rebate through the Home Efficiency Rebate program.
This is a limited time offer. Maximum of 120 days between your first and second assessments allowed. If there are circumstances that don't allow you to complete your first and second assessments within 120 days, your advisor can request an extension which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you have already participated in the Home Efficiency Rebate program and received a rebate, you may participate again as long as one year has passed since your post-renovation assessment and you are completing different upgrades. Rebates available on a first-come, first-served basis. Program enrollment and rebate payments are subject to availability of funds. Enbridge Gas Inc. reserves the right to revise this program without advance notice, including rebate amounts and eligibility. Homeowners are responsible for ensuring their rebate eligibility, choosing eligible certified energy advisors, keeping invoices and meeting criteria and deadlines.
